Welcome to my portfolio. You can view my resume by clicking the image to the right, or you can download it by clicking here. It features selected materials I created throughout my time at Michigan State University and Grand Rapids Community College. A substantial variety of skills are represented here, but they all trace back to my passion for writing. For me, writing is not simply putting words on a page. Instead, it is the communication of ideas, concepts, and opinions through all forms of media.
This portfolio features ideas communicated through mediums such as reporting, design, presentations, video, and more. Taking cues from verbal communication – where meaning is conveyed equally through word choice and tone - these examples highlight effective communication not just through words, but presentation.
This attention to detail has aided me in a successful internship experience based on user assistance and reporting, which helped the MSU Associate Provost of Undergrad Education develop a new website, and aided MSU’s Writing In Digital Envrionments (WIDE) program in developing new technology. I used my writing skills to produce quality work as lead reporter and head copy editor for the Grand Rapids Community College student newspaper, The Collegiate. I’ve used my talents to participate in a service learning project, as well as a Lansing-based community-building initiative. I’ve analyzed websites for the MSU Beal Garden and the Our Michigan Avenue project, and produced documents detailing steps to take to ensure maximum website effectiveness. In the meantime, I commenced work on an open-source music database, which I plan to continue developing in my free time. I played integral roles in each of these projects, refining my teamwork skills and creating the best products possible.
My goal is to take these communication skills into the workplace, where I can aid others in communication using the skills I have attained through my university experience.
